Steam Punk Canvas

Hi Ladies!

I made this canvas a while ago and waited for  Sandy to receive it before I posted it.  Yes she has another one of my canvases, but this one is very different.  She deserves it!!

I modge podged papers to the canvas and painted the sides black, brown and blue.  I drew the girl and designed her clothing.

I love how her hair wisps in the wind and her hat I added some feathers to.  I couldn't make the goggles  that usually go on the hat but this was my next best option.  She has a leather belt with a feather coming off it.  I painted a ruffle on the skirt.

I love her boots, I pieced them with the paper to get the design I wanted and I love a little attitude, foot on the clock, my time, stop time, don't rush me, I have forever.....ect.

There are rub-0ns in different places to add flow.  I love the big metal corners and Tim Holtz film strip.

I painted her hair and added the birds, they are a free flowing symbol of her hair.  I love the sentiment, as we are all beautiful in one way or another.

More angles and closeups, I really love this canvas. She was fun to make and I will do another one.

I have been finishing up my accounting so I can concentrate on my canvas art. It is torture to not create for me so I snuck in a card today, that will be coming up later.  First things first. lol

I would like to enter this into the following challenges

Sweet Girly Canvases

I have been blessed with another friend, Nadia from Scrap Affair!!
She wanted to trade canvases with me and knowing how well she paints her cards I was "Oh Yes!!"
She is the sweetest mom of 2 and so full of life and I had to make her something to express that part of her.  She made a canvas for me and it arrived in the mail before I even started mine. Meanwhile, she was so sweet and patient with me until I got hers done.

Here is my canvas for Nadia

I used Prima Romantique papers for her dress and various scraps for the background.
I made her myself and painted her hair and then doodled in some texture.  I stamped a few dragonflies here and there and aded bubble wrap to the background all in white paint.  The butterflies are punched from the same Prima papers and dotted around. A wooden embellishment "Sunshine" is at the top as that is what I feel Nadia is.  Two favorite sayings "Be Silly and Smile Often" were stickers and I put them on the right.  I see such a positive and happy person in Nadia so I had to put those on.

At the bottom of the canvas and in her hair I punched flowers from the same paper, they are adorned with pearls.  Us Girls deserve Flowers!!  I doodled around her body and lightly doodled Nadia's name on the side of the girl.  There are some rub-ons on the sides and a light coating of white paint just wisps every thing. I used a bit of distressed ink to smudge around for contrast too.

Look at this GORGEOUS girl that Nadia made for me

I love her eye!  I wish I could draw eyes like this.  I love the die cut on the left, so frilly.  Then she has long stemmed flowers in her hand.

The bottom of her dress is divine.  It is crumpled paper eyelet and tissue. So pretty!! I love how her legs are different and another die cut from her foot to the right is so soft and girly.  I love all the little trinkets too.  Nadia must have made some sprays with different inks as the colors are soft and very pretty.

Here is a better photo of the top of Nadias canvas to me.  I am drawn to her eye, you can imagine what is she thinking or even the attitude!? lol  I can see me in this.

You need to go see Nadia's blog post HERE regarding the canvas exchange. Look around her blog and see her gorgeous creations, you will be amazed!
I am so glad her and I did this and now we are going to do another one together.  When you share art with each other I feel a piece of someones life is with you on their artwork.  I am making fabulous friends because of all this so I encourage you to do it too.  I really owe this whole discovery to my very favorite friend, Guess Who??
SANDY!  She started it all and the friends I have newly met are from her too.
I have been Blessed!

Have a great day!

Guest Designer at Simply Magnolia

I am extremely excited that I was chosen as a Guest Designer at

Their challenge this time is BINGO

How fun is Bingo and then to have two awesome sponsors
THE PRETTY LITTLE RIBBON SHOP
AND
STAMPING TILDA

Here is the canvas I made for my guest designer spot
I chose the bottom 3 Bingo choices     Flowers, Pearls and Lace

Above is Tilda with Dotbow, she is colored in Copics.  Bonny Tilda was stamped onto card stock and lightly colored with Distressed Inks, an idea I got from my friend Chris Dark.   The canvas is covered with 2 Webster Pages papers and then painted with acrylic paint to blend them in.  I also edged the canvas and papers with Vintage Photo Distressed Ink.

I used mode podge to attach the sweeties and other embellishments.  The flowers, metal and wood pieces were attached with Glossy accents.

I used a Whimsy post card stamp, cut it in half, scrunched it up and then distressed it.  To the far left is a Melissa Frances metal corner that I attached lace to as a fan.  Above on the top is more lace and it is from my mother-in-law's family stash.  There are bits and pieces from other papers or embellishments but I love the birds in a row from Pion Design.  They are carrying love letters but you can barely see them to the left of Tilda on the canvas.

Doing a Magnolia canvas is so easy, the canvases come in different sizes so they can be used as gifts or in place of a card.  The modge podge helps keep them preserved,  you just need to be careful using modge lodge with the Distressed Inks, it bleeds.  Sometimes finish spray works the be best.  I hope I inspired you to do a canvas, they are really fun.

Thank you for stopping by my blog and visiting me today, I love all your comments.
Have a grand week ahead.

Mixed Media Canvas Trade

Happy Mail!

Chris Dark from the Sketching Stamper and I decided to trade canvases.  She is such a multi-talented women for whom I have long admired her work, so this is a thrill for me!

Here is the glorious canvas Chris sent to me

Look at the hand painted details Chris put into this girl.  There are doodles, shadows and painted flowers on her.  I love the way her hair sweeps and then is all bundled in flowers, my favorite style that I have seen Chris do before.   I also love the rounded shoulder as it is soft and natural.  This girl is just so beautiful isn't she, I love to look at her!

This is a great place to keep her, in my craft room next to a purple teddy bear that is very dear to me.  She matches perfectly and I can admire her everyday.

Look at the painted background with those itty bitty stars and butterflies dancing around.  Her necklace is even hand done.  Her belt has bling on it.  Amazing!

The left side closeup of her detailed painting, doodles and swirls.   I love the colors she chose to use.

The right side of the dress, Chris's perfectly drawn lines and flowers are amazing to me.  She is really good at the fine details.

Here is the canvas I sent to Chris

I painted the background with tan, brown and white.  Then I stenciled flowers onto the mid section of  the canvas.  I used Tim Holtz die to make the tree branch and a punch to make the flowers and hung the metal chandelier on it.  I rubbed Distressed Ink onto the white chandelier to age it.
Her hair is a mix of Liquitex glass beads texture gel that my friend Sandy gave me.  I made a headband in the middle of her updoo.

I hand drew the girl from a example in Julie Nuttings Book and made her and the dress out of paper.  Tim Holtz die Tattered Floral and a metal brad is the focal part of her skirt.  I had to add feathers for artistic fun like Chris would do.

I used die cuts of hearts and a butterfly and then put liquid pearls around them.   I did some doodling, which I learned from looking at Chris's Cards.

I really am pleased that Chris and I exchanged canvases.  We were able to get to know each other better through this art that we share and I truly met another beautiful friend!  A unexpected gift because of our  mutual love of canvas art.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing this with us.

Art Journal

My fabulous friend Sandy has sent me a art journal.   Sandy keeps encouraging me to use it, she sends me links and ideas for it so finally I tried it out.  My mind was blank but then there is alot going on in my home, illness, injury a grandson staying, accounting duties and a broken tooth, so my mind is blank. {We are all fine, nothing serious, just one thing after another, you know how it goes.}

My first 2 pages I had my son paint the background any way he wanted and then I put on some favorite maggies that I colored but didn't like them on a card.  I wrote some personal things about the start of my blogging and who were my first mentors that I followed.

The second set of pages I used a image I colored a year ago and tore paper just for fun.

Here are the 2 pages together

My last page is a new Tilda and my new heart dies from Papertrey Ink that I had left over.  After painting the background with Golden paint, I modge podged them all on.
While I was chit chatting with my sick kids at the table, I drew little doodles all over.  A memory when I look at this page.

Here is the gorgeous red (one of my favorite colors) leather journal Sandy sent me.  It is so pretty to use. lol  I will be able to create whatever personal things I want, you may never see the really bad artwork from here!  hehe  I do love the idea of writing in it as a creative journey.

Well thank you my friend for getting me into another medium, and No I am not doing the dictionary! hehehe  I just don't have time silly girl.  But I love your ideas.

I am entering the following challenges::
Tilda's Town anything goes
Marvelous Magnolia Challenge 13 Hearts

Have a great day and create freely everyone!

Steampunk Mixed Media Canvas

My daughter wanted a canvas and I told her she needed to help me with it.  Her ideas are aviator, editor, a little country, a touch of elegance and steam punk came to my mind.
She came up with the papers and I drew the girl according to how she wanted her to lean.
Then Tim Holtz's things are all over this canvas.  She went to work today and hasn't seen it finished yet!  We had fun collaborating together.

Here is the canvas, I know alot of stuff on it!!  It has all the things my daughter is passionate about.  Coffee stain, typewriter and The Journal represents her desires to publish books.  The bird is her urge to explore and travel.  The door is the mystery of the books she writes.  The gears are her creativity working and her love of metal and being different.

A closeup of the girl, she is hard to figure out but it is more 1800's style tight with a poof of lace and her foot is up on a wall (can't hardly see it) and it ruffles the dress.  She is wearing boots with clocks on them.  She has a bustier on and is in a laid back position, very relaxed.

Here is a close up of the top

Here is a close up of the bottom.  The 2 sentiments are "Life Loves the Passionate" and In Everything, Love.  This is how I feel about who my daughter is.

Thank you for stopping by my blog, I am having fun with canvases lately, I have a really pretty one coming soon!!
Have a great week!!

Hello to my creative friends, I have another DT card for you and the challenge to go with.

Winged Things is the theme of our new challenge

this weeks generous sponsor is

I have used one of her divine images, you should look through her blog here at Delicious Doodles Blog, she is very creative and has a variety of images to offer.

Here is my DT Tag for

For my tag I used a hard board (sorry I do not know who made it) already embossed sitting in my closet for a few years just waiting for me to get creative.

I colored the background with Distressed Inks and rubbed some Vintage Photo on the raised areas.  Then I punched a hole in the top for a ribbon and charm embellishment.

My image Faye was colored in Copics and then liquid pearls were placed in her hair.  I used a Websters Pages ribbon for a frame and 2 netted butterflies from my friend Suzi.

I hope you join Divas By Design Challenge this week and win a awesome prize!

Thank you for stopping by and happy creating!
