Saturated Canary Hula Hoop Love

Waaaay back when I was a young girl I Hula Hooped with my friends until our sides ached!  Those fun simple toys to exercise the middle, well I could use it now! lol   Coloring is so peaceful and relaxing and I really wanted to make a vintage style card that was subtle so this is what I have to share with you today.

Hula Hoop Love by Saturated Canary is so sweet and I love her tattered style.  I used Pion Papers from the Shoreline collection. Distressing and a bit of Gesso around the edges helped me achieve the Vintage affect I wanted.

She is colored in Copics.
I used Magnolia's envelope edge die twice and added a Tim Holtz pin and ticket. The fairy and flowers are from Prima.

I was playing around with my photo shop program. I like the old time photo look and it popped the color beautifully on the image.  Fun to experiment a bit.

Thank you for visiting my blog today.  You make me smile!! Big!
Hugs and Blessings to you,
Kelly

Saturated Canary's Maxine the Florist

Hello my friends,
I have some time on my hands due to a flu bug in the house! Eli has missed this week of school because of it and I had it, got rid of it and it is back, nasty stuff.
So why not color and put a card together to take my mind off it all.  Why let it spoil the whole week, another reason to craft.

Maxine the Florist is available online, I love her hair and relaxed attitude.
My papers are from Pion, such a luxury, makes me feel better! lol

Playing with Petaloo and Prima flowers and then I added a house die cut from Paper Trey Ink.
Most everything is from the original August kit I purchased from Flying Unicorn and there is still a ton left to use.

Thank you for stopping by and don't let the flu bug follow you home.
Blessings,
Kelly

Our Daughters

Hello friends,
If you have a daughter out there you will love Pion Papers newest set My Precious Daughter!  They are not only beautiful but the sentiments are so worthy to scrapbook or make a canvas that will last forever.  I have 1 daughter out of 6 boys so I really love to spend time with her and buy her things. lol  You cannot replace a mother daughter relationship like that.  So when my mom was diagnosed with Dementia, I started to preserve our memories and her personality before it started to be altered.  It is  hard to watch your mom become someone else but as long as she is living her life as best as she can in her own happiness, I support her.  So hang onto those precious memories and scrapbook them!

Here is a canvas I made using the My Precious Daughter Pion Papers from Flying Unicorn Stores the "August Kit of the Month".  This kit is fabulous and then I received a birthday gift to spend so I went back to the Flying Unicorn Store to add more to my crafty collection.  Addiction!!  As I was finishing this canvas, the package arrived in time to add more embellishments to the canvas! I was having the time of my life, kid in a candy store with unlimited candy! haha

The Pion paper is the background, vintage girl and sentiment.  I used the mask that came with the kit to create a textured background around the sides of the canvas and then sprayed it with Prima's bloom in Iris and Gold, also came in the kit.

The flowers are Petaloo with Flying Unicorns own charms, Prima black resin and fairy resin pieces.  I used Alcohol ink to change the color of some of the metal pieces.

The sentiment is on a chipboard piece included in the kit.  I painted and sprayed it until I was happy with the color, it is etched around the sides and the bottom says "smile".

I hope you enjoyed my canvas today. It sure brought me happiness as I thought about my mom and daughter.  While I craft things, thoughts just come into my head in a fun personalized way or sometimes in a healing way.  This could not be a better way for me to create joy.

Thank you for stopping by and wishing you all a wonderful day!

Magnolia's Large Butterfly Tag

Good Morning to my friends and welcome to my visitors.
I made a tag with Magnolia's large butterfly, papers and doohickeys that I wanted to share with you.

I colored the butterfly with Copic markers and doodled around a bit.
Layers of doohickeys, chipboard and pearls.

The side envelope has a tag that pulls out, shown below

This is the back of the tag, I like this side too.  The bag has a woodgrain finish and I stamped along the edge of the tag. The brads are from Trimcraft and the crocheted doily is from a friend.

Thank you for stopping by today, I wish you all a wonderful day!

Annie Sloan Chalk Board Paint Tutorial

Hello and welcome to my blog today.  I hope everyone is happy and creating something fun!!
Today I want to share my new/old crafting furniture I painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey and Old White.  I did one piece and now I am onto another addiction, Chalk Painting furniture.   This is the easiest paint for furniture yet!  I hope this small tutorial inspires you to try it out.

This is my son's changing table and dresser, I use it for die cutting and holding my ribbons.  In my new home I wanted to match everything so I could create in style, a must! lol   This is my first attempt at using Annie Sloan Chalk Paints  so I know fine tuning will be done in future paintings.

First I painted 1 coat of Old White Chalk paint,  let it dry about 1/2 hour, I live in a dry climate so drying times may be different.  Then apply the second coat of Old White Chalk paint and you do not need to have perfect strokes, push it in, swirl, swipe it in x's create texture. (The texture and lines will show up after you apply the first coat of clear wax, so gorgeous.)

After letting the 2 coats of Old White dry, I mixed 1Paris Grey small can with 2 cans of water and then stirring it until is is completely mixed.

Here is the little container I mixed it in, a lot of this tiny paint can goes a long ways.  After you add water it is then referred to as a wash.

After the Paris Grey wash is completely dry I used a fine sand paper block to rub off some of the Paris Grey paint to show the Old White paint. This is distressing it and I could have done a lot more but I did not want the original brown to show.

The next step is to apply soft wax to the dresser after you wipe the dust off from the sanding.  I took a stiff bristle paint brush to apply the wax and then wiped it off with a soft cloth.  Make sure you take a small section at a time and brush on the wax, then wipe off the excess wax.  You only apply a small amount of wax when you put it on and then use the cloth to get the majority of it off so the stickiness is gone.

Do you see some of the texture and marbling of the paints now after apply clear wax?

Before the soft wax dries the next step is I did was to apply the dark wax to the edges of the doors and sides of the cabinet.  I took the Annie Sloan brush that I painted with (after washing it out) for the dark wax so I could get it into the crevices.  It is important to have the clear wax moist on the surface first so it helps blend the dark wax.  The dark wax helps age and distress your piece.  After applying the dark wax you need to rub it in and then off until you achieve the look you want.  This can be done numerous times and if it gets too dry just add a tiny bit of clear wax to the area first.

I let it completely dry overnight and rubbed the entire dresser with a clean soft cloth to polish the surface.  It takes a while to cure and I recommend using the instruction sheet that goes with Annie Sloan Paints for each step.
There is a lot of lines and color variation in my dresser but I did not distress this one very much, it appears more elegant to me.

Because I use it to do my canvas painting too, I had a piece of glass made for the top to protect it from my own abuse.  I also did a very old wooden file cabinet that sits right beside it.

Here is the leg to my big craft table, this one is more distressed and was a challenge because it is not real wood and there is cardboard on the sides to paint. As you can see it looks just as good as the real wood furniture pieces I did, this Chalk Paint is amazing.

The top and 1 side is not done as I ran out of paint and clear wax.  I will finish it up when I return home from visiting my family in Minnesota.  The piece will still look like this but I am applying more coats of clear wax to harden the top so I can color and embellish my things on this craft table without ruining the paint.

Of course I cannot stop there so I am going to finish the other 2 pieces in my craft room next.  After seeing the result of Chalk  painting,  I decided on the color lilac for my walls.

Here is a better look at my desk and the unfinished parts of it.  I love the light that comes into the room and that balances out the lilac on the wall with the grey crafting furniture.

The navy drawers are metal so I will apply Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to that too, why not experiment and I will try a different color too, hmmm maybe Antoinette.

Thank you for stopping by and I hoped you have learned something from my tutorial.  I purchased my Annie Sloan paint from a local retailer but they also have a online shop Here at Hudson and Main.  If you have any questions about this process the ladies at Hudson and Main will be happy to take you calls and help you with it.

Have a great day,
Kelly
